A short walk through the wood from the campsite takes you to the Beagle Country Pub and Restaurant, adjacent to Wild Oak Woods is Bainloch Deer Park with it’s fantastic cafe and tours and if you carry on down the hill you will find Sandyhills Bay beach and the little beach shop.

Colvend’s fantastic village shop is around 1 ½ miles from the campsite and stocks a wide range of foods and things you may have forgotten. There is also a little Tea Room which is open in the summer months.

There are many beautiful walks close to Wild Oak Woods including the Rockcliffe to Sandyhills coastal path and Balcary to Rascarrel cliff walk. 

Adjacent to the wood you will find Dalbeattie forest which boasts one of the 7 Stanes mountain bike tracks and a number of the other 7 Stanes routes are just a short car journey away. 

There are many enchanting historic sites in the area including the New Abbey Corn Mill and Threave Castle and Gardens and a number of golf courses close by. 

Dumfries and Galloway is renowned for its fabulous local produce and arts and crafts. The Steamboat Inn at Carsethorn serves local seafood and Loch Arthur Farm shop and Café serves fabulous organic produce.  

Maybie Farm Park near Dumfries, the Cocoa Bean Factory at Twynholm and Cream of Galloway at Castle Douglas offer a fun day out for all the family.
